Sterilization

Sterilization is one of the birth control methods available to women. It is meant to be permanent. When a woman chooses sterilization, surgery is used to close her fallopian tubes. This prevents sperm from reaching the egg.

More and more women today choose sterilization. It is the most popular birth control method in the United States. Sterilization provides very effective protection against pregnancy for the rest of a woman's life. It is often a great option for women who don't want any more children and for women who do not want children at all.

Only you can decide if sterilization is for you. But we are here to help. Learning the facts about sterilization may help you make your decision.

A staff member at your local Planned Parenthood health center can also discuss sterilization and all of your other options with you and help you find the services you need.
