Meet Chloe, one of our Get Real Teen Council Members. Each month we highlight these amazing youth and ask them to reflect on their experience as a Sexual Health Peer Educator. Here is what Chloe had to say:

"Growing up as a queer youth, I often have found that aspects of my identity and those of  my queer peers are wholly unrepresented in the "health class" curriculum presented at school. This lack of education and resulting lack of acceptance threatened the foundation of school as a support system for me. I support the Healthy Youth Act because through the spread of comprehensive and inclusive information, it will foster an environment of acceptance for those historically marginalized in conversations about sexual health."

One thing I love about being a sexual health peer educator is...

"The community developed among the Get Real Teen Council. Through our important and often difficult work, we have grown close and share a sense of comradery and mutual respect. The influence of this communal bond in turn empowers us as individuals in our efforts to be engaging, impassioned educators and activists."

One thing/fact I wish all my peers knew [related to sexuality/sexual health] is…

"That sexual consent is never something owed to a romantic or sexual partner in a relationship. I want all teens to understand that the dynamic of intimacy that they may share with a partner does not translate to an obligation to carry out unwanted sexual behavior. You do not need to please someone else if it transcends your own comfort level or desire. Alternatively, on a more positive note, I hope that the teenage rhetoric about pleasure and masturbation can continue to grow destigmatized among my peers."

Fun/Interesting Fact about me: “I have eaten the same breakfast every morning for the past four months.”
