HIV/AIDS Testing and Counseling

HIV is the virus which causes AIDS, a serious disease which affects the body's immune system and reduces the body's ability to fight infection. The virus is spread by contact with infected bodily fluids such as blood, semen, and vaginal discharge.

OraQuick - HIV Rapid Test
Upper Hudson Planned Parenthood's health center at 259 Lark Street in Albany is now offering a confidential, rapid HIV test clinic using OraQuick.  This test uses an oral swab, rather than a finger prick, for testing and results are available in 20 minutes.  Call 434-5678 for clinic times and to make an appointment.  We serve men and women.  Fees are based on a sliding fee scale.  Medicaid and most insurances are accepted.  Our hope and expectation is that we should be able to offer the rapid test to all of our patients at all four health center locations by the end of 2006.

Traditional Blood Draw HIV Test
All four of our health centers provide confidential HIV testing using a traditional blood-draw test, with results available in 7-10 days. An anonymous HIV test with same-day results can be provided at our Albany Health Center by special appointment. The testing is provided by New York State Health Department testers. Appointments can be made by calling 1-800-962-5065.
