The TV, digital, and streaming buys aims to prepare Americans to respond boldly to the threat of SCOTUS overturning Roe v. Wade

Planned Parenthood relaunches BansOffOurBodies.org and the new companion site BastaDeControlarnos.org

Washington, D.C. — Today, Planned Parenthood Federation of America and Planned Parenthood Action Fund announced a paid media campaign totaling $16 million to educate and increase urgency around the abortion access crisis facing the country. The television, streaming, and digital ad buy comes as states across the country are enacting harsher and harsher abortion bans and the Supreme Court is poised to issue a decision this summer that could dismantle the constitutional right to an abortion guaranteed by Roe v. Wade. Despite the various threats to abortion access, and the fact that 80% of Americans want abortion to be legal, polling has shown that people are unaware of the national threat to Roe presented by Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization (JWHO) case, a challenge to Mississippi’s 15-week abortion ban. The campaign aims to prepare Americans to respond boldly to the threat of SCOTUS unraveling or overturning Roe v. Wade.

As part of this multi-million dollar campaign, today Planned Parenthood also re-launched BansOffOurBodies.org with a new companion site in Spanish, BastaDeControlarnos.org which will share similar looks and features, but will arm its specific audiences with culturally competent content to inform and participate in the abortion access movement. The sites will educate the public about what abortion rights are at stake in different states, provide toolkits to take action, share patient’s stories, and serve as a central hub for the response to the SCOTUS decision in the JWHO case. The site in English will also direct people to events taking place around the country.

Statement from Alexis McGill Johnson, president and CEO, Planned Parenthood Federation of America and Planned Parenthood Action Fund:

“There is overwhelming support for abortion access in this country. Politicians know this and are hoping they can take away our freedoms and ban abortion without anyone noticing. Planned Parenthood is sounding the alarm like never before, because we are facing an unparalleled crisis. Should the Supreme Court overturn Roe this summer, over 36 million people could lose access to abortion in their state. It’s essential that everyone understands what’s at stake and how to protect our rights.”

The ads are running across the country and will air through the Supreme Court’s JWHO decision. Some of the ads running on various platforms include Our Bodies, Our Futures, Our Abortions and The Facts About Abortion Access. The ads will focus on supporters of abortion rights who are unaware of the stakes with a special emphasis on reaching people under 25 and Black and other communities who face barriers to accessing health care.

This paid campaign is part of a coordinated effort to raise awareness and build grassroots support for reproductive freedom ahead of the Supreme Court’s decision this summer. On Saturday, May 14, the end of National Women’s Health Week, local Planned Parenthood organizations across the country will host a Bans Off Our Bodies Day of Action to mobilize, build momentum, and send a clear, firm message that we will not stand for these attacks on our rights and freedoms.
