New York, NY — On the National Day of Appreciation for Abortion Providers, Planned Parenthood recognizes and thanks the Planned Parenthood staff, and all abortion providers, who ensure that patients get high-quality, compassionate health care. Nearly one in four women in America will have an abortion by the age of 45, and Planned Parenthood knows that every individual's personal decision about their pregnancy should be respected and valued.

Statement from Dr. Leana Wen, President, Planned Parenthood Federation of America

Planned Parenthood thanks the doctors, advance practice nurses, physician assistants, and all the health care professionals, clinicians, and staff who work every day to ensure that patients have access to the full range of reproductive health care options — including safe, legal abortion care. Abortion providers are compassionate, skilled health care professionals who believe in the health, well-being, and dignity of every patient. We’re so grateful for their dedication to our patients and mission of providing reproductive health care to all who need it.

At Planned Parenthood, we are committed to providing our patients with the high-quality health care they need, including abortion, in a safe and compassionate environment. And we don’t stop there: We constantly evaluate new research in the field, new recommendations from medical associations, new technologies, and feedback from patients, experts, and regulators to continue improving our practices.

Health care providers need to be able to give their patients the best health care possible, including giving them accurate information about all of their options. A new gag rule from the Trump/Pence administration interferes with the provider-patient relationship and violates core ethical standards in health care by forcing Title X providers to withhold health care information from patients. It is important that every person have every medical option and be able to make their own decisions about their pregnancy, in consultation with their health care providers — and without interference by politicians.

Support for access to safe, legal abortion is now at a record high — more than seven in 10 Americans support abortion rights. The unfortunate reality, however, is that too many women, transgender men, and gender-nonconforming people in the U.S. continue to face barriers to sexual and reproductive health care -- including safe, legal abortion. Every person — no matter who you are, where you live, how much money you make, or who provides your health insurance — deserves access to reproductive health care without barriers or political roadblocks.
