Do I need a parent or guardian or a certain age to get tested if I’m pregnant at any clinic?
In general, parental permission is not needed to get a pregnancy test at a health clinic. However, there may be certain locations where, for one reason or another, a health care provider will require parental permission. Check with your provider about her or his policy. You can contact your local Planned Parenthood health center to schedule an appointment for a pregnancy test.
If you think you might be pregnant, you can also take a home pregnancy test. Home pregnancy tests are available at pharmacies, and there’s no age requirement to purchase one. They usually cost about $8–$15. Pregnancy tests are effective early — as soon as a few days after a missed period. But to get an accurate result, be sure to follow the directions on the package exactly.
Women who take home pregnancy tests often go to clinics to have the results confirmed by a health care provider. Also, if the test is positive, and you’re pregnant, the provider can offer information about your pregnancy options.
