PHOENIX – Dr. Jill Gibson, Chief Medical Officer of Planned Parenthood Arizona released the following statement in response to Attorney General Mayes’ opinion regarding the meaning of “medical emergency” in Arizona law.

“We appreciate the Attorney General for her ongoing, tireless support of access to abortion. We also know that our reality here in Arizona is that abortion remains heavily regulated, and significant ambiguity exists surrounding the terms in which I am allowed to meet my patients’ need for abortion. There is still much work to be done to ensure Arizona patients, families, and medical providers have the right to make our own decisions about pregnancy and abortion. This is why restoring the right to abortion within our state constitution has never been more important.”
