Planned Parenthood Great Plains Receives Grant from The Oklahoma City Community Foundation to Provide Greater Access to Reproductive Health Care
For Immediate Release: April 11, 2024
Planned Parenthood Great Plains (PPGP) is honored to announce it received a $35,000 grant from the Oklahoma City Community Foundation through its Access to Health Care Community grant program. This grant will play a pivotal role in supporting approximately 200 under and uninsured patients, ensuring they have greater access to vital reproductive health care services in the Oklahoma City area. Specifically, the funding will be utilized to fill the gaps where Title X funding may not be applicable, allowing PPGP to expand its service provision and maintain a robust safety net for those in need.
Earlier this year, PPGP joined the federal Title X family planning program when it was awarded grant funding by Missouri Family Health Council, which oversees and supports much of the Title X network in the state. Under Title X, PPGP’s four Oklahoma health centers are able to deliver low-to-no-cost services to qualified patients including contraception counseling and supplies, wellness exams, breast and cervical cancer screenings, STI and HIV prevention services, screenings, treatment, immunizations, and pregnancy screening and counseling.
“We are grateful to The Oklahoma City Community Foundation for their unwavering support of our work to provide accessible reproductive health care for all, regardless of their insurance status or ability to pay,” said Emily Wales, president and CEO, Planned Parenthood Great Plains. "This grant will enable us to serve even more individuals in our community who rely on our services for their reproductive and sexual health needs and continue to fulfill our mission: Care. No matter what."
Through this grant, PPGP’s Oklahoma City and Edmond health centers will be able to significantly enhance the level of care and support provided to those communities. Patients access care at PPGP for a wide range of services including birth control, STI and HIV testing and treatment, emergency contraception (morning-after pill), pregnancy testing and services, gender-affirming care, and general wellness care.
Additionally, PPGP launched vasectomy services last year with free two-day clinics in Oklahoma City. The organization recently announced expanded free and reduced cost vasectomy procedures.
