An experienced interim leader, Calloway brings a track record of stepping in to optimize services and improve culture at health care and nonprofit organizations
NEW YORK – Today, Planned Parenthood of Greater New York (PPGNY) announced that Joy D. Calloway will be joining the organization, as well as the PPGNY Action Fund, PPGNY Votes, and PPGNY Votes PAC, as interim Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately.
Having previously served in leadership roles at health care and nonprofit organizations, Joy brings to PPGNY a strong track record of helping organizations communicate their vision, establish strategic priorities, mobilize key stakeholders, improve culture, and develop high-performing teams. Joy has more than 25 years of experience and most recently served as the Interim Executive Director at the National Association of Health Services Executives. Prior to that, she was the President and Chief Executive Officer at the New Center Community Mental Health Services.
Joy is a fierce champion for comprehensive sexual and reproductive health care and education in Black, Latinx, LGBTQ+ and immigrant communities that have historically been denied access to quality care, and she is not new to Planned Parenthood. At 15 years old, she took her first job as a youth peer educator at Planned Parenthood in Detroit.
“I feel honored to be chosen to lead Planned Parenthood of Greater New York. I look forward to learning together, problem-solving together, and working together with a team that is committed to enhancing health care for all New Yorkers,” said Joy D. Calloway, Interim CEO at Planned Parenthood of Greater New York.
“PPGNY’s mission to provide and expand critical health care services to communities across New York is more important than ever, and we are confident that Joy is the right leader for this moment and our next chapter,” said Karen Seltzer, Board Chair at Planned Parenthood of Greater New York. “Joy will push us and hold everyone accountable as we work to put ourselves in the strongest position possible to advance equity and improve health outcomes for all.”
Joy will be based in PPGNY’s New York City headquarters and will travel to PPGNY health centers across the state. She will report to the Board and oversee the Senior Leadership Team while the search for a permanent CEO continues throughout the year.
