Free HIV Tests from Planned Parenthood Hudson Peconic - Suffolk County
For Immediate Release: Jan. 30, 2014
(Smithtown, NY) – To mark National HIV Testing Day, Planned Parenthood Hudson Peconic (PPHP) will offer free HIV tests on June 26th at all of its six medical centers in Suffolk County. Giveaways will be available to those who get tested while supplies last.
According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than one million people in the United States are living with HIV/AIDS. Among that population, an estimated 21 percent are unaware they are infected emphasizing the need to expand opportunities for HIV testing.
“In 2007, Suffolk County reported the second highest number of newly reported AIDS cases in the state, excluding New York City,” noted Reina Schiffrin, President/CEO, PPHP. “With the rates of HIV/AIDS cases increasing dramatically, it’s critical for PPHP to address this public health issue by offering our patients convenient and free testing.”
PPHP medical centers offer rapid HIV testing, which gives patients results in approximately 40 minutes, eliminating the anxiety of waiting to be called back to the center for results.
No appointment is necessary and HIV testing is free and confidential. For medical center locations and hours visit www.pphp.org or call 1-800-230-PLAN (7526) to be connected to the nearest center.
