Statement from Karen J. Nelson, CEO of Planned Parenthood of Maryland:
"Planned Parenthood of Maryland congratulates Judge Nicole Berner on her confirmation to the Circuit of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, which hears Maryland appeals. We hope that Judge Berner, who has a strong record of promoting sexual and reproductive justice and gender equality, including as a litigator for Planned Parenthood, will help lead the Fourth Circuit in upholding the right of patients, not courts, to make decisions about sexual and reproductive health care. We also congratulate her on becoming the Fourth Circuit’s first openly LGBTQIA+ judge, helping the court be a better reflection of the residents it serves."
