Pap Test

For best Pap results, do not douche or place anything in the vagina for 24 hours before your appointment. If you use the Nuvaring, you can continue using it as normal.

If you have your period and are spotting or bleeding lightly, we can continue with your appointment. Otherwise, please reschedule for another time.

HIV Testing

Planned Parenthood offers reduced or no-cost HIV testing for those who qualify.

We also offer PrEP (Truvada®) to prevent HIV infection and PEP (post-exposure prophylaxis) to prevent HIV infection AFTER exposure to HIV.

Please note, if you think you've been exposed to HIV, it is very important to start PEP within 3-days (72-hours) of exposure, to prevent HIV infection. Visit a medical provider or go to the emergency room immediately if you think you've been exposed to HIV.

STD Testing

A full screening includes tests for the most common sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) and infections (STIs). This includes: Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, Syphilis, and HIV.

  • Chlamydia  and Gonorrhea: A urine test should be done two weeks after possible exposure. For most accurate results, do not urinate (pee) for one hour before your visit.
  • Syphilis: Blood testing should be done 30 days after possible exposure
  • HIV:  If you think you've been exposed to HIV in the last 3-days, see a medical provider or go to the emergency room immediately for PEP. PEP should be started as soon as you can, after exposure to HIV, to prevent HIV infection.

If you have a vagina and are showing symptoms, do not douche or place anything in the vagina for 24 hours prior to the appointment.

Intrauterine Device (IUD)

You can expect a pre-visit phone call to discuss IUD options and to answer any questions you may have.

If you are not using hormonal birth control, you must abstain from penis-in-vagina sex for 14 days prior to your appointment. If you are using hormonal birth control, continue taking it as normal.

Please eat something and take 800mg of ibuprofen one hour prior to your appointment.
