How long should I plan to be at the health center on the day of my appointment?

For those having a medication abortion, your visit can take up to three to four hours. We'll follow up with you, if you'd like, in 1 and/or 5 weeks to make sure your abortion is complete and that you are well. In the unlikely event that you are still pregnant, you may need another dose of medication or to have an in-clinic abortion to end the pregnancy.

If you are over 16 weeks pregnant, you will need to have an in-clinic abortion procedure that will require two visits on two consecutive days. Your schedule should be blocked entirely these two days.

Do I need someone to accompany me to the appointment or pick me up afterward?

For a medication abortion, you do not need someone to accompany you to the health center.

For an in-clinic abortion, we recommend you have a support person with you as you may receive sedation during an in clinic abortion procedure but not required. In the event you receive sedation; you will not be able to drive yourself home and will need a driver or taxi/rideshare

Help Increase Abortion Access For All

Now that the Supreme Court has overturned the constitutional right to abortion, at least 26 states are poised to ban abortion, leaving 36 million women—and others who can become pregnant—without access. Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest is prepared to serve an influx of out-of-state patients seeking safe, legal abortion.

Our Abortion Access Fund provides free or reduced-cost abortion services for thousands of patients each year. Your contribution will help to ensure that no patient is turned away due to inability to pay.
