Palm Springs, CA - On Wednesday, September 25, 2024, Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest (PPPSW) will host the 61st Anniversary Riverside County Cocktail Reception – an event to benefit the important work of PPPSW across Riverside, Imperial, and San Diego counties. The event will be held at the Avalon Hotel & Bungalows in Palm Springs at 5:30 p.m, and will feature an exciting opportunity for supporters to double their impact through a $50,000 matching gift challenge.

Historically, the Riverside County Cocktail Reception has provided an opportunity for Planned Parenthood supporters in the region to come together in support of continued access to birth control, life-saving cancer screenings, STI testing and treatment, abortion, gender-affirming hormone therapy, comprehensive sexual health education, and more.

Sexual and reproductive health care access is under attack like never before, which makes Karla Kjellin-Elder and Jeffrey Elder's lead match gift of $50,000 especially meaningful. Supporters have the opportunity to double their impact and meet the challenge of protecting patients across Riverside County. Funds raised will fuel the organization’s efforts to continue ensuring broad public access to sexual and reproductive health care for all people in the region.

Philanthropists Karla and Jeffrey Elder, moved to the Coachella Valley in 2018 and became involved with a number of local charitable organizations. The couple believes it is important to support their local community in whatever way they can, and recognize that communities only thrive when everyone steps up to help each other.

Statement from Darrah Johnson, President and CEO of Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest:

“We are thrilled to invite you to the 61st Anniversary Riverside County Cocktail Reception. Our vision at Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest is simple: to help build a world where sexual and reproductive rights are basic human rights, and where every person has the opportunity to choose their own path to a healthy and meaningful life.”

“In the last few years, sexual and reproductive health care has faced a myriad of challenges – from a hostile political environment, to the end of Roe v. Wade, to attacks on gender-affirming care and IVF, to doctors fearing prosecution simply for providing care. It is more important than ever before to loudly and boldly recommit to our mission.”

“It is a privilege to bring passionate sexual and reproductive health advocates together. Thanks to our supporters, we are able to expand access to care, keep our health centers open for extended hours, provide logistical and financial support for patients, train the next generation of reproductive health care providers, and so much more.

“We invite all who support protecting and expanding access to sexual and reproductive health care to join us on September 25th in Palm Springs. More information can be found at planned.org/reception. Together, we will continue fighting for the right of all people to make decisions about their own health, lives, and futures.”
