Volunteer Opportunities
Start Volunteering
How to start volunteering:
Thank you for your interest in volunteering with PPSP!
Your first step is to fill out our volunteer interest form at this link. Doing this will inform our Volunteer and Outreach Manager that you are ready to start volunteering! This form will also automatically sign you up for our monthly volunteer newsletter which is sent the first week of each month and has all the ways you can jump in to start volunteering.
You can also check out our events page to sign up for upcoming trainings, actions, or teach-ins!
If you are interested in opportunities with our advocacy and electoral programs at Planned Parenthood Pennsylvania Advocates, please sign up here.
Our volunteer opportunities vary based on your individual strengths, interests, and capacity but here are some of the ways you can volunteer with PPSP:
Current Volunteer Groups
Leadership Action Team (LAT)
- This group is for volunteers who want to be more involved in the planning, logistics, and decision making for our volunteer program. We meet once a month in person and over zoom!
Generation Action
- Our student groups at Lincoln, Temple, West Chester, Keystone, Geisinger, Penn State, & Muhlenberg!
Consistent Trainings: (Offered around once every 3-4 months)
Patient Escorting
- What is escorting? - Due to a persistent presence of anti-abortion protestors in front of our health centers, volunteers are needed to escort our patients to and from the door of a Planned Parenthood to avoid harassment on their way to their appointment.
- Available at our Locust, West Chester, Norristown, and Far Northeast Locations.
- Two Hour Shifts, days vary based on location
- Interested volunteers must complete the required training and paperwork
Messaging Training
- Great first Step for ANY volunteer
- How to shut down false claims about Planned Parenthood and abortion and bring empathy to our conversations about abortion and PP
Shared Story Training
- Stories are the backbone of advocacy work! YOU (yes YOU) have a story, how you tell it is up to you!
Health Center Advocacy Program (HCAP)
- This program bridges the gap between our advocates and patients. HCAP is tabling in our health center waiting rooms and talking with patients about sharing their stories or volunteering! (and sometimes doing voter registration!)
Other Ways to Volunteer
Canvassing for Healthy Neighborhoods
- Door to Door canvassing in neighborhoods surrounding our health centers to tell people about the PP in their neighborhood! We will also be giving out coupons for free Emergency Contraception (aka Plan B)
Coalition Work
- Participating in, showing up for, and collaborating with other advocacy groups in Philly! We want to focus on smaller organizations who are doing advocacy work on the ground in PPSP service area
Educational Workshops
- Working collaboratively with fellow volunteers to create educational teach-ins for our supporters!
Legislative Work
- In-District meetings with local & state legislators. Attend committee meetings, meet with YOUR politicians, & speak to media!
Abortion Care Baskets
- Putting together aftercare packages for our abortion patients.
Tabling
- Most consistent way we recruit interested volunteers and spread news about upcoming events
Small Fundraising Events:
- Sex Trivia, Movie Screenings, Drag Shows, punk shows, wrestling shows, yoga classes, karaoke nights, and much more!!!
Phone Banking
- We need help with confirmation calls, calls to action, and calls for upcoming events!
Zines
- Self-published, mini magazines that can be about any topic you want! Made in collaboration with your fellow volunteers
Flyering
- Posting flyers for upcoming events around your neighborhoods. Also posting on social media, sharing with friends, and creating flyers!
