Planned Parenthood of Connecticut Criticizes "Last-Minute" HHS Regulation

(New Haven) Planned Parenthood of Connecticut (PPC) sharply criticized a last-minute regulation issued today by the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) that will threaten the rights of patients to receive complete and accurate health care information.
“This midnight regulation, issued in the final days of the Bush administration, will undermine the health care information that Connecticut women receive and could limit patient access to health care services as well,” said Judy Tabar, President and CEO of Planned Parenthood of Connecticut.
“This parting shot at women’s health ignores a patient’s right to receive the information necessary to make health care decisions,” Tabar added. “We intend to join our national organization and our colleagues nationwide in fighting the implementation of this rule, which puts ideology over common sense and vital health care and counseling.”
The regulation broadens the scope of existing law and reaches beyond congressional intent, by focusing solely on providers, with no protections to ensure that patients receive critical health information and services.
