PPSNE is holding Affordable Care Act Education & Enrollment Fairs across the state helping people get covered.

Planned Parenthood of Southern New England (PPSNE) is holding Affordable Care Act Education & Enrollment Fairs throughout Connecticut beginning February 1, 2014 from 12 until 4 p.m. at the Planned Parenthood Hessel Education Center, 345 Whitney Avenue, New Haven, CT.

The Affordable Care Act Education & Enrollment Fairs consist of hour-long educational sessions and opportunities to enroll in Obamacare. PPSNE certified application counselors will be on hand to assist in applying for their new health insurance. This process should take approximately 60-minutes per person. The open enrollment period for new health insurance will end on March 31.

"As the leading women’s health care provider in Connecticut and Rhode Island, we are committed to helping thousands of uninsured women get enrolled in the Affordable Care Act and make the best decisions for their health," said Judy Tabar President & CEO of Planned Parenthood of Southern New England. "Obamacare is the greatest advance in women’s health in a generation, and thanks to the new health insurance law, millions more women will see an expansion of preventive services covered in their insurance plans."

Expanded preventive services also include birth control, which is now treated like all other preventive care, meaning it is available without a co-pay. Ninety-nine percent of American women between the ages of 15 and 44 who are sexually active have used birth control at some point, and nearly 60 percent of women who take the birth control pill use it for medical reasons other than contraception, such as treatment for ovarian cysts, hormone replacement after chemotherapy, endometriosis and more. Birth control is just one example of the many benefits provided under the ACA.

PPSNE knows firsthand the importance of preventive health care provided under the ACA. Helping many of the thousands of uninsured residents get covered is extremely vital. Therefore, in addition to certified application counselors, Michelle Jimenez, the new Outreach and Enrollment Specialist at PPSNE, is onboard and is dedicated to enrolling and educating uninsured Connecticut residents in new health care plans for individuals and families.

Jimenez began her career at PPSNE as a Clinic Assistant three years ago in Waterbury. She is fluent in Spanish and is also a medical interpreter for Planned Parenthood. Jimenez is excited to start her work and utilize her experience and knowledge to educate PPSNE patients and Connecticut residents about the benefits of the ACA.

A large portion of Jimenez’s outreach and enrollment efforts will focus on young people of color, ages 18-35. Jimenez will work to provide educational and enrollment opportunities throughout the state.
